Weardale Cottage

Luxury Holiday Cottage

The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) encompasses some of the most beautiful and wild country in the UK. The North Pennines are also a UNESCO European and Global Geopark, recognised for its outstanding geological interest.
The North Pennines lie between the National Parks of the Yorkshire Dales to the South, The Lake District to the West, and the Northumberland National Park to the North.
There are 5 main areas in the AONB - Weardale, (where the cottage is situated)Teesdale,  the Derwent Valley, Alston Moor, and the South Tyne.
There are so many things to do in the area you will be spoilt for choice!  Apart from being on the Coast to Coast Cycle route and close to the Pennine Way, Weardale has a lot of history from the old lead mining industry.  You can visit the wonderful restored lead mine at Killhope, visit the Stanhope Fossil Tree, and the Durham Dales Centre.
The cottage has lots of suggestions for walks and cycle routes.
Further afield you can visit High Force Waterfall in Teesdale, the quaint market town of Alston with its cobbled main street and famed as the highest market town in England and where you can also take the South Tynedale Railway.
It takes no time at all in the car to get to Hadrian's Wall, or if you want to visit the historic city of Durham, that is only an hour away too.
