The cottage is situated in the lovely rural village of St John's Chapel, in Upper Weardale, and right in the heart of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

St John's Chapel is a delightful small rural village with a couple of pubs, a lovely cafe, a Co-op and a small auction market.  It lies in the valley of the River Wear and there are lovely walk from the cottage down to and along the river, as well as climbing up the valley sides to walk on the moors above.

The cottage is perfectly situated for visiting the most beautiful areas of the North of England and the Borders.  Hadrian's Wall lies about 30 miles to the North, the stunning cathedral city of Durham is 20 miles to the East, the Yorkshire Dales National Park is on the southern doorstep and the Lake District National Park is no more than an hour away.  Apart from all of this the North Pennines themselves are a stunning place to visit, with Cross Fell, High Force waterfall, Barnard Castle, and many more wonderful landscapes to explore. Britain's most famous long distance path, The Pennine Way, is only 5 miles away from the cottage so as you would expect there are tremendous opportunities in the area for walkers. The cottage lies directly on the Coast to Coast (C2C) Cycle Route, and with secure storage for cyclists is a perfect place for a stopover.
